Trägt die Person auf dem Bild ein Regencape oder ist das die zu einem Ritus gehörende Verkleidung? Die Situation wirkt unheimlich. Eine grün überbordende Landschaft mit violetten Felsformationen im Hintergrund bildet das Setting. Das Gesicht der Person ist, wie so oft auf den Bildern von Till Gerhard nicht zu sehen bzw. durch einen Farbtupfer maskenartig unkenntlich gemacht. Till Gerhard (*1971, lebt und arbeitet in Huntlosen) verbindet in seinen Bildern auf geradezu mystische, und bisweilen unheimliche Weise die Tradition der Landschaftsmalerei mit Motiven der Popkultur, der Hippie- oder der Flower-Power-Bewegung. Wald und tiefes Wasser, so der Künstler in einem Interview, haben hohen Symbolwert und stehen für das Unterbewusstsein. So befinden sich die Protagonisten seiner Bilder in den Landschaften, sehen sich unerklärlichen Wesen gegenüber, vollziehen merkwürdige Riten oder scheinen sich selbst in der Natur aufzulösen. Die Prozesse der Auflösung finden ihr Äquivalent in der Malerei, die geprägt ist von starker Farbigkeit, einer besonderen Lichtführung und abstrakten Elementen, die die Szene überlagern, durchbrechen und rhythmisieren. Till Gerhard zeigt in seiner Ausstellung aktuelle großformatige Bilder sowie eine Auswahl seiner Bilder der letzten Jahre.

Is the person in the picture wearing a rain cape or is that a disguise forming part of a rite? The situation has an uncanny feel about it. A green exuberant landscape with violet rock formations in the background sets the scene. The face of the person, as is so often the case in Till Gerhard’s works, cannot be seen, or rather, it has been made unrecognizable by a splash of paint, much like a mask. Till Gerhard (*1971, lives and works in Huntlosen) combines in his pictures the tradition of landscape painting with motifs of pop culture, the hippie or flower power movement, in a downright mystical and occasionally quite eerie way. Forests and deep water, as the artist once pointed out in an interview, have a high symbolic value and represent the subconscious. The protagonists in his paintings thus find themselves within the landscapes, encounter inexplicable creatures, perform strange rites, or seem to themselves be absorbed into nature. The processes of dissolution find their equivalent in the painting, which is characterized by strong colors, a distinctive use of light, and abstract elements that are superimposed on the scene, break through it, adding rhythm to it. In his exhibition, Till Gerhard shows his latest large-format paintings as well as a selection of his paintings from recent years.
